Located near from Mount Fuji in Japan, the Bernard Buffet Museum opened its doors on 25 November 1973, thanks to the initiative of collector Kiichiro Okano (1917-1995).

Kiichiro Okano discovered the work of Bernard Buffet in a Japan still scarred by the Second World War. Immediately struck by the power of the young French painter's works, Okano saw them as a compelling testament to the emptiness and anxiety felt by many at the time.

Over the years, Kiichiro Okano's fascination with Bernard Buffet grew, and he decided to establish a museum entirely dedicated to the artist.

Today, the Bernard Buffet Museum is a renowned institution, housing the largest collection of the artist's works in the world. It offers visitors a unique immersion into the singular world of Bernard Buffet.
